Hosted by our very own regular MC Phil Walker, you are pretty much guaranteed a great night of side-splitting fun! Headlining this month we have the fabulous Stephen Bailey. As well as being a prominent Headliner on the UK comedy circuit, he has also supported the biggest names in stand-up, including Micky Flanagan on his arena tour, Lucy Beaumont, Katherine Ryan, Jenny Eclair, Jason Manford, John Bishop and Sarah Millican. Known for being a proud northern, working class, gay man, his brand of gossipy humour has singled him out as one of the UK’s most sought-after talents for comedy and entertainment formats. As well as boasting over 100k followers on Instagram after one of his videos was shared by none other than Melissa McCarthy. 2025 has been a huge success for Stephen with appearances on several primetime shows including BBC One’s Blankety Blank & The Celebrity Inner Circle, ITV’s Sorry I Didn’t Know, Channel 5’s Celebrity Puzzling & Sally Lindsay’s Big Christmas Quiz. He also filmed for Comic Relief x Morning Live. Audiences fell in love with his northern charm and warmth on E4’s Celebrity Coach Trip where he made it to the final. Other credits include two appearances on Live at the Apollo (BBC Two) - hosting and as a guest. He has appeared on shows including Unbreakable (BBC One), co-host on Date or Drop (BBC One) alongside Amanda Holden, Would I Lie To You?, Richard Osman’s House of Games, Pointless Celebrities, Celebrity Bridge of Lies, Celebrity Mastermind (twice!) & Celebrity Weakest Link (BBC One), The Apprentice: You’re Fired, Between The Covers & Strictly: It Takes Two (BBC Two), Live from Barry Island (BBC Wales), The Stand Up Sketch Show, Love Island: Aftersun (ITV2), Roast Battle (Comedy Central), Tipping Point: Lucky Stars (ITV) and was a regular CelebAbility (ITV2). His debut BBC Radio 4 stand-up special Stephen Bailey: One of Many was named Comedy of The Week and after performing twice on Live at the Comedy Store (Comedy Central), he was commissioned to record his own 30 minute comedy special which aired on the channel in 2019. "Fabulously funny!" - The Guardian. Simon Wozniak. Simon Wozniak has been a sought-after headline act all around the UK for the past decade and has gone on to quickly establish himself as the one to watch with his honest, inimitable, no holds barred opinions on the world, hotly-tipped by the industry as a future star. A master of the comedic crescendo, Wozniak builds routines, combining off-beat ideas and opinions with savagely honest insights into the inner workings of his mind and he has risen phenomenally through the ranks and can now be seen performing regularly at some of the biggest and best comedy clubs in the country. In 2016 he was the winner of both the Nottingham Comedy Festival New Act of the Year and the World Series Panel Prize, Beat The Frog. In 2019 he was the runner-up in the prestigious Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year. An engaging performer who injects energy into any room he performs in, Simon is a comic who is confident with joke structure and can use his skills to present unpredictable punchlines which take the wind out of his audience! "A real star in the making." - Time Out. Peter Brush. A highly distinctive performer and deft writer of finely crafted jokes, Peter Brush unassumingly takes the stage with his slight bespectacled frame and scruffy hair, before consummately conquering it with an arsenal of razor sharp quirky one-liners and peerlessly original routines, all delivered in an amusingly awkward fashion. A former BBC New Comedy Award finalist, Peter performs at clubs all over the UK and abroad. He has written for BBC Radio 4’s The News Quiz, The Show What You Wrote and Newsjack and was the support act for Alexei Sayle’s 2020 show. Peter has also been Tour Support for Jonathan Pie, Jason Manford, Fern Brady, Arthur Smith and Paul Sinha. Very unique and very funny! "Compellingly hilarious...first-class gag writing...an original and achingly funny voice." - Chortle. *Pleas book your tickets early to save disappointment and money (cheaper in advance), these shows are usually very busy and often sell out. Line-ups are occasionally subject to change.

A Man For All Seasons

Theatre

Robert Bolt’s A Man for All Seasons is not merely a historical drama; it is a clinical study of the soul under pressure. Set against the backdrop of Tudor England—a world of velvet, violence, and shifting allegiances—it follows the final years of Sir Thomas More, the Lord Chancellor who chose the silence of his conscience over the roar of a king’s command. As King Henry VIII seeks to dismantle the spiritual foundations of Europe to secure an annulment and an heir, More stands as the "center of gravity" in a spinning world. He is a man of profound wit and even deeper law, a man who believes that when a person takes an oath, they are holding their own self in their hands like water. The play explores the terrifying friction between private integrity and public necessity. Through the eyes of the Common Man—the cynical, shape-shifting narrator who reminds us that we are often more complicit than we’d like to admit—we witness a slow-motion collision between a man who cannot yield and a state that cannot wait.

Kind of the Cool – The Phil Shotton Nonet play Miles Davis

Music

The Phil Shotton ‘Kind of Cool’ Nonet play live the entire iconic ‘Birth of the Cool’ album! A rare and exciting opportunity to hear one of the most important and influential albums in jazz performed live, with the original instrumentation and arrangements, by some of the finest jazz musicians in the North of England. Phil Shotton – Baritone Saxophone & Bandleader John Padfield – Alto Saxophone Owen Bryce – Trumpet Mike Monument – French Horn Matthew Horner – Trombone Adam Dutch – Tuba Tom Sykes – Piano Matt Lawton – Double Bass Andrew Bold – Drums Birth of the Cool was the most important stylistic step to follow after bebop – generating an entirely new wave of playing that influenced a new generation in the early 1950s. This compilation album by American jazz trumpeter and bandleader Miles Davis, released in February 1957 by Capitol Records compiled eleven tracks recorded by Davis’s nonet for the label over the course of three sessions during 1949 and 1950. Featuring unusual instrumentation and several notable musicians, the music consisted of innovative arrangements influenced by classical orchestral music techniques such as polyphony, and marked a major development in post-bebop jazz. As the title suggests, these recordings are considered seminal in the history of cool jazz. One of the features of the Davis Nonet was the use of paired instrumentation. An example of this can be heard in “Move”, the melody is given to the pairing of trumpet and alto saxophone, baritone saxophone and tuba supply counterpoint, and trombone and French horn provide harmonies. “Jeru” demonstrates another Nonet hallmark: the use of a unison sound and rich harmony throughout the horns. Davis said, “I wanted the instruments to sound like human voices singing … and they did.” Though the album is seen as a departure from traditional bop, the recordings do feature tunes that are considered close to the bop style, such as “Budo” which has the band bookending solos by Davis, Mulligan, Konitz, and Winding, similar to a bebop head arrangement. In 1957, after the release of Birth of the Cool, Down Beat magazine wrote that the album “[influenced] deeply one important direction of modern chamber jazz.” Several tunes from the album, have gone on to become Jazz Standards played by all sizes of ensembles. The nonet recorded twelve tracks for Capitol during three sessions over the course of nearly a year and a half. Davis, Lee Konitz, Gerry Mulligan and John Barber were the only musicians who played on all three sessions, though the instrumental line-up was constant (excepting the omission of piano on a few songs)The second recording date came three months later on April 22, 1949. The band did not return to the studio again until March 9, 1950. Davis did not call the band for any rehearsals or live performances between the second and third recording dates. Many members of the Miles Davis Nonet went on to have successful careers in cool jazz, notably, Mulligan moved to California and joined forces with trumpeter Chet Baker in a piano-less quartet, before creating his Concert Jazz Band. Capitol Records were at the time disappointed with the sales of the nonet recordings, and did not offer Davis a contract extension. Instead, Davis signed with the new jazz specialty record label, Prestige, for whom he would record his first album in 1951.

TAKE CARE: An Evening with Lindsey Burrow

Theatre

We are delighted to invite you to a truly special and deeply human event — TAKE CARE: An Evening with Lindsey Burrow. This is an opportunity to step into the world of a woman whose strength, compassion, and quiet resilience inspired millions. Lindsey Burrow is a mum of three, a full time NHS physiotherapist, and the devoted wife of the late Rob Burrow, whose courage in the face of MND touched hearts across the nation. While the world saw the public battle, Lindsey lived the private one — balancing motherhood, her demanding work, and the extraordinary care she gave to Rob throughout his illness. Her story is not one of perfection, but of perseverance. Of love expressed through action. Of finding a way forward on the hardest days. Of holding a family together while the world watched a hero fade. And somehow, through it all, she continued to show up. This is not a story that will tell anyone what to do, this is a story of what Lindsey HAD TO DO, just like millions of others have had to. It is not just an event; it is a moment to reflect, to listen, and to honour a woman who embodies what it truly means to take care. Lindsey’s journey is one of courage, compassion, and quiet determination — a reminder that even in the most challenging circumstances, love, friendship and care can be the strongest force of all. A sad but also a feel good story that has been well received everywhere it has played. Please join us in welcoming a remarkable woman whose story continues to inspire, uplift, and remind us of the power of humanity at its very best. Tickets: General Admission £22 For an additional £12 you can Meet & Greet Lindsey after the show and receive a signed copy of the book. Select the £12 M&G option during booking process.

Nothing is sacred – even love itself can be bought for the right price. A native of this hedonistic underworld, Manon is caught between twin desires when she falls in love with the student Des Grieux. Steadfast and devoted, he offers the possibility of an honourable life. Yet, the riches promised by the world of Parisian society remain tempting... Manon’s inner turmoil and struggle for survival lie at the devastating heart of Kenneth MacMillan’s 1974 adaptation of Abbé Prévost’s novel. In this signature work of The Royal Ballet, MacMillan’s nuanced understanding of human psychology makes for an unflinching look into the moral degradation of Manon’s Paris, while all its decadence and decay are brought to life through Jules Massenet’s score and Nicholas Georgiadis’s designs.

Nosferatu: with live music

Music

Nosferatu (Cert U) A Symphony of Horrors The silent masterpiece with a brand-new live score The Film Nosferatu (1922) is arguably the film that gave birth to the horror genre. Notable as the first cinematic interpretation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, its combination of expressionistic acting and unforgettable images render it just as powerful and unsettling today as when it first thrilled cinema goers 100 years ago. Chris Green’s new score was commissioned by English Heritage for a live outdoor screening of the film at Dracula’s spiritual home of Whitby Abbey. The music is a haunting blend of electronic and acoustic instruments performed live by the composer and, combined with FW Murnau’s iconic images, makes for a genuinely remarkable and unique cinematic experience.

The Glenn Miller and Big Band Spectacular

Music

Born in the dancehalls and radio waves of 1930s America, Big Band music became the heartbeat of a generation seeking joy and escape. Led by bandleaders like Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, and Duke Ellington, these orchestras transformed jazz into a national obsession — uniting soldiers, sweethearts, and swing fans with brass, rhythm, and boundless optimism. Even decades later, the style remains one of the most uplifting and unifying forces in live music. From the soaring romance of Moonlight Serenade to the high-octane drive of In the Mood, the show celebrates the golden age of swing with precision, warmth, and flair. Every note, every arrangement, and every performance is crafted to capture the energy and charm that made the Big Band era unforgettable. Backed by a full live orchestra, the production blends faithful musical authenticity with modern stagecraft — bringing swing classics from Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, and more to life for today’s audiences. Simon Evans: Staring At The Sun

Comedy

Simon Evans is Staring at the Sun Simon Evans is Back! Waaaay back… With growing evidence that we are living in a Computer Simulation – and a pretty glitchy, off-brand simulation at that – and the approaching watershed of the AI Singularity looming like a weirdly pixelated cumulo-nimbus on the horizon, BBC Radio 4 stalwart and veteran of a quarter century of highly acclaimed stand-up comedy Simon Evans is squinting at an uncertain future, and revisiting the blue remembered hills of his youth. The analogue world of hitch-hiking, pub bets and hedge porn. Of being able to get properly lost. And also pondering the great thinkers and mystics of the past who had, it seems, the same doubts and misgivings about “reality”, back when an adjustable sandal passed for cutting-edge tech. NB Any similarity of Doll in package to Patrick Stewart is coincidental. No refunds. 'A masterclass' ***** (The Scotsman). 'Outstanding' ****½ (Chortle.co.uk). 'Dynamite' **** (The Times).

Lowther's Cinema Club: Peter Asher: Everywhere Man (15) 1h 57m Cert tbc Directed by Dan Geller, Dayna Goldfine Featuring Peter Asher, James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt, Carole King, Paul McCartney, Steve Martin, Eric Idle, Twiggy, Marianne Faithfull, and many more. We love a music documentary here at Lowther, and our November Cinema Club is bringing a great one about Peter Asher to Lytham. Peter Asher: Everywhere Man is a feature-length documentary inspired by musician, producer, and manager Peter Asher’s celebrated cabaret show A Musical Memoir of the ‘60s and Beyond. Like his stage performance, the film traces an extraordinary life lived at the centre of modern music history. From his early years as a child actor in 1950s London to the Swinging Sixties, Asher emerges as a Zelig-life figure in the culture of the era; one half of the pop duo “Peter and Gordon”, recipients of four chart-topping hits penned by Paul McCartney; the first head of A&R at Apple Records; and co-owner of the Indica Gallery, the epicentre of London’s countercultural art scene. Asher helped define a generation of singer-songwriters as producer and manager for James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt, and others, cementing his reputation as one of music’s most influential behind-the-scenes forces of the 1970s and ‘80s. In the present day, he remains a vital creative force, still performing, producing, and most recently collaborating with Barbra Streisand on her acclaimed The Secret of Life duets album. Featuring intimate interviews with James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt, Carole King, Kate Taylor, Lyle Lovett, Natalie Merchant, Marianne Faithfull, Paul Jones, Danny Dortchmar, Waddy Wachtell, Lee Sklar, John Boylan, Paul Shaffer, and Paul McCartney [in voiceover], as well as cultural icons Steve Martin, Eric Idle, Twiggy, and Pattie Boyd. Everywhere Man paints a vibrant portrait of a man whose life intersects with some of the greatest artists and moments of the last six decades. The soundtrack - woven from the timeless hits of those featured - creates a score as unforgettable as the story itself.
